Ligeti’s Quartet No. 1 “Métamorphoses nocturnes” opens a number of doors to unknown worlds: the dreamy and dark atmosphere recalls Béla Bartók, but Ligeti transforms the four voices into elusive timbres, blurs the melodic tracks and traces his path towards a singular style; raw, surprising and always expressive.

Performed by the Barbican Quartet’s sharp bows, the work will be illustrated by the artist Cécile Pruvot whose graphic universe, always dynamic and imaginative, is much appreciated by fans of augmented concerts.

The rhythmic ambiguity of Brahms’ Quartet op. 51 n°2 evokes a melancholic lyricism, highlighted by the passage from minor to major. Since it is necessary to get out of this turmoil, the chromaticisms make the motives follow one another, until a final that reminds the intoxication of the Hungarian dance.
