The Modigliani Quartet, the newly appointed artistic director of Quatuors à Bordeaux, invites the members of Cuarteto Casals, an internationally renowned Catalan quartet, with a summit meeting around three masterpieces by Mozart, Bartók and Mendelssohn.

This is the first time that these two of the most dynamic and inspired groups on the current chamber music scene will come together onstage to explore the different facets of string chamber music, from the quartet to the octet and the quintet.

Jonathan Brown, the violist of the Casals, will join the Modigliani to interpret the torments of Mozart’s poignant Quintet in G minor K. 516.  The programme and the festival will conclude with the brilliant and joyful Mendelssohn Octet, in which the composer pushes the boundaries of chamber music to orchestral writing.

Programme :

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: String Quintet in G minor K. 516 (Modigliani Quartet & Jonathan Brown)

Dmitri Chostakovitch: String quartet n°11 in f minor op. 22 (Cuarteto Casals)

Felix Mendelssohn: Octet for four violins, two violas and two cellos in E-flat major op. 20
