The nature of the quartet changes with Béla Bartók, who multiplies the modes of playing (glissandi, pizzicati, playing with the wood of the bow, etc.) to enrich the genre, and turn his Quartet No. 3 into a dance of wild sonorities.

The rhythmic ambiguity of Brahms’ Quartet op. 51 No. 2 evokes a melancholic lyricism, highlighted by the transition from minor to major. Since it is necessary to get out of this turmoil, the chromaticisms make the motives follow one another, until a finale that recalls the intoxication of the Hungarian dance.

This concert will be held in the magical setting of the Citadelle of Blaye, in the Chapelle du Couvent des Minimes.
