Église Saint-Martin

Église Saint-Martin
Place du Maréchal Foch
Pauillac

Built on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa in 1824 by the architect Armand Corcelles, Saint Martin’s Church saw its bell tower painted white in 1848, to facilitate the mooring of boats off the estuary; an ex-voto was offered to honour Saint Clément, the patron saint of sailors. The bell tower has a hexagonal plan; the main nave is framed by two aisles separated by high arcades, resting on Doric columns. Other singularities: a vast tribune where the organ is installed and an ex-voto of the Saint-Clement boat is suspended in the nave.
